Celebrate National Pizza Month with Pastaria’s Four Must-Try Pizzas
Wood-fired pizzas at Pastaria in Clayton, MO
From sweet heat to savory mushrooms, Pastaria’s General Manager Zach Brown shares his favorite pizzas to order at this St. Louis Italian restaurant.
October is National Pizza Month, and there’s no better excuse to gather around the table and enjoy one of the most popular meals. At Pastaria, Niche Food Group’s family-friendly Italian restaurant in Clayton, pizza is just as much a reason to visit as the restaurant’s handmade pastas. In honor of National Pizza Month, we asked Pastaria General Manager Zach Brown to share his four favorite pizzas he’d recommend to guests time and again.
1. 'Nduja Pizza: The Perfect Balance of Sweet and Spicy
For those who like a little heat, the 'Nduja Pizza delivers a bold combination of spicy, savory, and sweet flavors. The star of the show is 'nduja, a soft & spicy Italian pork sausage, balanced with a drizzle of honey to balance the heat.
As Zach puts it, the 'nduja "packs a punch," but the honey adds "just enough sweet to keep you coming back for another bite."
2. Four Cheese Pizza: A Cheese Lover's Dream
A classic is a classic for a reason. Pastaria's Four Cheese Pizza takes a familiar favorite to the next level with the addition of gorgonzola, creating a rich blend of cheeses that complement one another in every bite.
Zach describes gorgonzola as "blue cheese's sweeter cousin," noting how seamlessly it blends with the other cheeses to create what he calls an "unctuous cheesy soirée." The result is an indulgent, beautifully balanced pizza that proves simple combinations can be anything but ordinary.
3. Mushroom Pizza: An Umami-Packed Favorite
Earthy and deeply savory, Pastaria's Mushroom Pizza is a must-try for mushroom lovers and anyone who appreciates fresh herbs.
Oyster mushrooms take center stage, complemented by rosemary, thyme, and garlic. Zach calls the oyster mushroom and herb combo "the best herbal umami bomb," with garlic taking it to the next level. It makes a case for veggies being the star of the show.
4. Marinara Pizza: The Underrated Classic
Don't overlook the Marinara Pizza. While it might seem like one of the simpler options on Pastaria's menu, Zach considers it a hidden gem. "The sleeper pizza!" Zach says, explaining that its seemingly simple ingredients come together to "punch way above its weight in terms of flavor." With the classic combo of mozzarella, tomato, and basil, it’s light without skimping on flavor, and it might surprise you enough to become your new go-to order.
This National Pizza Month, take Zach's expert recommendations as your invitation to try something new or gather a few friends and order all four to share. Plan your next pizza night and make your reservation at Pastaria. After all, there's no better way to celebrate National Pizza Month than with one of St. Louis’ best pizzas (or two).
